Are Funds Safe on MC Markets? Platform Safeguards and Four Things You Should Do
Fund security has two sides: what the platform does for you, and what you must do yourself. Most people only think of the first.
Introduction
The strongest platform safeguards can't save a user whose verification code gets phished; the most disciplined personal habits can't save a platform that mismanages its reserves. This article explains both sides clearly.
1. The Platform Side: Four Layers of Protection
Layer one, Proof of Reserves (PoR): all reserves are deployed on the public Arbitrum network, fully backed, with the reserve ratio consistently kept above 100%, and any user can verify it themselves. For the principle and verification method, see “What Is Proof of Reserves” and “On-Chain Verification: A Hands-On Guide.”
Layer two, cold/hot wallet separation plus multi-signature: most user assets are stored offline, with only what's needed for daily operations kept in the hot wallet; any movement of funds from the cold wallet requires joint authorization from multiple parties — no single key can move a large sum.
Layer three, independently audited public infrastructure: reserves and contracts are on Arbitrum, and price data comes from Chainlink and Pyth — all public, verifiable protocols.
Layer four, fund address separation: user assets and platform operating funds are held at separate on-chain addresses, each independently verifiable — the reserves backing your deposit are structurally impossible to mix with operating expenses.
2. Your Side: Four Things
First, enable 2FA and use an authenticator app rather than SMS — this one action eliminates most of the possibility of your account being compromised. Second, set a withdrawal whitelist — even if your account is fully taken over, funds can only be withdrawn to addresses you pre-approved. Third, set a fund password — an extra independent verification for sensitive operations like withdrawals. Fourth, take email secondary confirmation seriously — it's a “feature,” not “harassment.” For detailed setup of all four, see “How to Secure Your Account” and “The Deposit and Withdrawal Guide.”
3. The Logic of Layered Defense
The core idea of layered security is that no single line of defense should have the potential for a “catastrophic breach.” Login verification guards against unauthorized access, 2FA guards against credential leaks, the fund password guards against fund operations being bypassed, the whitelist guards against a full account takeover, and email confirmation guards against session hijacking — each layer blocks a different attack, and if any one layer fails, the next one catches it.
4. Anti-Fraud Reminder
MC Markets will never message you privately to request a transfer, ask for your fund password, private key, seed phrase, or 2FA code, nor ask you to move funds to any “secure address.” All official information is published only through official channels. If you receive a suspicious private message, ignore and report it.
FAQ
Q: If my account is compromised, will I definitely lose my money?
A: Not necessarily. If you've set a withdrawal whitelist, even if the attacker logs in, they can only withdraw funds to your own address. That's why the whitelist is called the “last line of defense.”
Q: Could the platform misappropriate my money?
A: User assets and operating funds are held at separate addresses, and the reserves are fully backed and verifiable on-chain. You don't need to trust a promise — you can verify it yourself following “On-Chain Verification: A Hands-On Guide.”
